MOMO Challenge

March 8, 2019

A recent social media challenge that targets children and young adults, called the Momo Challenge has caused concern through out our country.  The Momo Challenge encourages children to commit dangerous and potentially violent acts through social media and video games, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Minecraft.  Momo is a ghoulish-looking avatar that has threatened and cyberbullied children across the world. The challenge has been linked to suicides in other countries.  If children refuse to do the “challenge”, Momo threatens to leak personal information, leaves disturbing messages, and sends violent images.  Parents are being encouraged to monitor children’s adolescent activity on social media and other technology.  Our teachers and administrators will be talking with students concerning this recent challenge. If you hear students talking about the Momo Challenge, please address the dangers if you feel comfortable. If you have any questions, see the helpful links below.

And while the Momo Challenge is the latest, parents need to always be vigilant and aware to what their children are viewing and participating it on social media, we have also listed links below for other things to be aware of.

As always, your eyes and ears into the lives of our students are much appreciated.  Thank you!
