Cherokee Schools Return to school FAQ sheet January 2021: In order to return to school for a healthy 2021 spring semester here are a few frequently asked questions that may help you determine if your child is able to return to school after the break. Will Cherokee Schools be opening back up in person on January 5th? Yes, Cherokee Schools will be back in person on January 5th to begin our spring semester. When can my child return to school if they have been exposed to COVID 19 over the break? Your child can return to school once one of the following has been met. A: Your child receives a negative covid test result 5-7 days after the last date of exposure to a positive individual. Tests must be taken no sooner than 5 days after the last date of exposure. Your child may return to school on the 8th day with a negative test result and no symptoms. Daily symptom monitoring must be done by parents for an additional 7 days. Social distancing and wearing a mask must also continue during the additional 7 days. B: Your child does not take a test and has quarantined for 10 days after the last date of exposure. Your child may return on the 11th day after exposure. Children must be symptom free and parents continue to monitor symptoms daily for 4 days, social distance and wear a mask. *Last date of exposure means the last day someone was in close contact with a positive individual, within 6ft for a total of 15 min or more within a 24hr period. What if someone in my household has tested positive for COVID? The above A and B criteria for return still apply, however the last date of exposure from someone living in the same household unfortunately may cause the date of return to be much longer than 7-10 days. *For more accurate dates please contact the school office and consult with the administration for a possible return date. Your health care provider may also assist you with return dates for your children in these situations. When can my child return to school if they test positive for COVID 19? Your child may return to school: A: 10 days after the first day of symptoms prior to testing positive and they are symptom free. B: If no symptoms were present when the test was administered it is 10 days from the date of the test as long as they are symptom free. If your child will not be able to return on January 5th please contact the school office on Monday January 4th, and let us know. We will then help determine the date for their return, establish distance learning needs and set up any meal request at that time. Elementary: (580)596-3277 High School: (580)596-3391 Thank you, Cherokee Public Schools This information is also posted online at https://5il.co/o8z0.

Cherokee Chief Families, We have made the decision to move the PK3 - 5th grade to distance learning starting tomorrow December 16th. Over the past two days we have seen an increase in positive cases within our school community that we have not seen before. We have been very fortunate all semester to avoid a school wide closure however due to this sudden increase and the scheduled break ahead we feel it is best to give our students and staff the best chance to avoid further spread. Our K-4th grade will be given paper packets in place of the devices for the next few days. These will be sent home today with students and can be returned to their teachers after break. We will release students today at normal time, please be aware of the road conditions as you travel to pick up your child. The link to the meal request form can be found below. Please order by 9am on Wednesday December 16th. Pick up will be from 10am to 1pm in the HS Student Parking Lot. Thank you and have a safe and enjoyable break! https://forms.gle/ASPRqSkN1eUtcQDE9

Cherokee Families, We have had 1 student at Cherokee Elementary School test positive for COVID-19. We have identified 10 students who were in close contact and will begin immediate quarantine. Every parent of a child who came into close contact has been personally notified. If you did not receive a phone call your child did not come into close contact with this individual. All of our quarantine procedures and contact tracing are guided by the State and County Health Department. Thank you

Attention Cherokee Families, Beginning tomorrow, December 15th, grades 6th - 12th will move to distance learning for the rest of the week. We have had two positive cases within our staff at the JH/HS buildings with other tests still pending. These staff members were not in close contact with any students, but in order to mitigate the potential for further spread in our school and community we have made the decision to go virtual. This will mean that all activities for the week will be postponed as well. Updated schedules will be made available at a later date. Students electing to take their semester tests or those required to, will need to check all instructions provided by their teachers posted in Google classroom. Staff will be available during normal school hours to assist with any student or parent questions. Our Pre K - 5th grades will remain in-person for this week as their building has remained unaffected. Meal request for all 6th-12th can be made online https://forms.gle/qUaZSDg4SUHWJRRZ6. Please respond to that request as soon as possible so that we may provide meals to all students who would like them this week. Thank you,
